In Brazil's Center West Region, shredding cotton stalks post-harvest is crucial for speeding up decomposition and reducing insect infestations, such as the boll weevil, which historically damages crops. Typically, a flail mower, mounted on a large tractor, accomplishes this task. However, due to the high cost of farm tractors and the abundance of used harvesting equipment, Alamo Group's Brazilian division saw an opportunity to innovate. We modified our 12-meter hydraulic flail mower, the FLV1200, to fit onto older cotton harvesters that were otherwise destined for scrap. This adaptation extends the machines' lifespans and reduces usage of costly farm tractors, helping farmers delay expensive new purchases and reduce their environmental impact. We started producing and selling these modified units in 2024.
