Driving Sustainability with Innovative Street Sweepers
At Alamo Group, the rising demand for environmentally friendly street sweeping solutions, spurred by regulatory changes in California and other states, has led us to develop advanced electric and hybrid electric street sweepers. Our objective is clear: to engineer sweepers that match the performance of traditional models while operating cleanly and efficiently on a single battery charge, without sacrificing the familiar design our customers rely on.
Revolutionizing with Electric and Hybrid Technology
In spring 2023, we unveiled prototypes that promise to significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions. These include the fully electric Schwarze M6 and the Nite Hawk hybrid electric mid-size regenerative air sweeper. In 2024, we expanded our line to include a hybrid electric version of the M6, all of which have proven their commercial viability through rigorous testing.
The Fully Electric Schwarze M6 Mechanical Street Sweeper: Partnering with a leading truck manufacturer, we developed a near-fully electric sweeper. It maintains minimal hydraulic components, using eco-friendly hydraulic fluid to reduce environmental risks further. After extensive testing, including a successful trial by the City of Huntsville, Alabama, the M6 demonstrated exceptional performance and energy efficiency, operating effectively for eight hours with substantial battery life remaining and producing significantly less noise. However, despite its readiness, challenges with our chassis supplier have delayed its market launch.
The Hybrid Electric Schwarze M6 Mechanical Street Sweeper: Recognizing the potential for significant fuel savings, we designed the hybrid M6 to offer a 24% improvement in fuel efficiency over standard models. This model targets customers looking for greener options without the full costs associated with electric models, including the infrastructure for charging stations. Set for release in early 2025, this sweeper meets both economical and environmental goals.
The Hybrid Electric Nitehawk Raptor Regenerative Air Sweeper: Given the higher energy demands of air sweepers, we started with the more compact Hybrid Raptor. It has since surpassed the traditional model’s performance by 38% in fuel efficiency and is poised for customer delivery later this year.
These innovations underline our commitment to not only advancing sustainable product solutions but also ensuring they meet the practical and regulatory needs of our customers, paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future in environmental care and urban maintenance.
